Haunted Put-in-Bay Ghost Walk

Explore the Spooky Side of South Bass Island

Situated on Lake Erie’s South Bass Island, Put-in-Bay is widely known for it’s breathtaking scenery, historic attractions, and wild nightlife. This Ohio tourist destination is also home to many spirits – more than those that can be found in a bottle.

Hear the chilling tale of Sam Anderson, the assistant lighthouse keeper, who commit suicide by hurling himself into the turbulent waters of Lake Erie during an 1898 smallpox outbreak. His ghost has been reported walking the lighthouse grounds at sunset. Doors open and close of their own accord, and items are said to be tossed about by a spirit named Benny at a local island brewery. Put-in-Bay was the staging point for the famous Battle of Lake Erie, where Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry defeated a British naval squadron in 1813. One hundred years later, a monument was built to honor that victory. Its colorful history, ghostly rumors, and the truth of this monument – and what lies beneath – will leave you aghast.
